'I am very satisfied with the ankle support. There were numerous times I was stepping on roots to avoid mud pits and my ankles failed me.I would slip right into the muddy mess, but luckily my boots would not allow full rotation of my ankles, so I never got a sprain!'
'These boots also did a great job on the scramble. Although they are not mountaineering boot and don’t have a climbing shoe sole, they gripped the rock well through the chimney feature. The chimney was a little snowy and icy, so foot placement was key to staying safe. These shoes made me feel secure and stable in these conditions.'
'I received the Mishmi Takin Kameng hiking boots on a Thursday, and hiked up steep 5620 ft (1713 m) over 5 miles (8 km) on Saturday. I never got a blister despite the steep, relentlessly climbing trail.'
'I have really enjoyed wearing the Mishmi Takin Kameng Mid hiking boots: they are my primary pair of boots right now.'
'The boots provided good stability and foot support.'
'I have found the tread on these boots to grip really well. I hiked on a lot of ice, slush, and snow and did not slip at all. At one point on an ice coated trail, I thought about putting on my trail spikes, but just didn't need to as I wasn't slipping.'
'What I have found to be noticeable is how light they are on my feet, which makes me feel more agile without losing out on ankle support'
'Conditions were sufficiently wet to test out the water-proofness of the eVent material. The results were confidently water-proof. At no point on any trip did I have wet feet. My feet stayed warm even on the-16 C (3 F), sub-freezing day.'
Sanjay Rawal, Fit Wild
'These boots are now my favorite pair of footwear.'
'They weren’t exactly boat-wear, but were so comfortable for mixed terrain: from rocky riverbanks to muddy redwood forests, they allowed me to move seamlessly between environments.'
As a meter reader for the last 10 years it's been impossible to find boots that hold up to what I do. Waterproof on most boots is generally good when you're walking your dog or to ...view moreand from an office but no so much when you are outside for 8 hours and walking 10+miles a day. Even if they were waterproof they'd fall apart well before you'd have to worry about getting your feet wet. I've owned boots from many different companies ranging in quality and price. These are by far the best boots for your money. These boots have held up incredibly well. I've been wearing them everyday at work for the past 3 months and I'm so happy to have purchased them. Between November 14th and February 18th I put ~839 Miles on these boots. This is about 70 miles a work week or 14 miles a day. I've worn them in freezing temperatures, rain, ice, snow, and mud. I'm happy to report they are still waterproof and in great shape (see attached picture). At first the shoes were a little stiff around the ankle, but only took a couple days to break in. However, they were still comfortable out of the box. After a couple days of molding to my feet and ankles they were incredible. I've honestly had zero complaints. Things to note. 1) Your feet will get damp. While they are waterproof don't be alarmed when your feet get damp. Usually I've found it's from my work pants getting wet and the water seeping in from the top of the boot. However the boots do dry quickly and it never gets uncomfortable even when a little damn inside. 2) Don't be afraid to get inserts. After about a month I decided to get insoles for the first time and while the shoes were comfortable before having a pair of Dr. Scholl's Custom Fit Orthotics was a great plus. 3) Price. I know the price is expensive but so far it's been a great investment. When you spend as much time on your feet as I do it's a welcomed change to not worry about replacing my boots every month. A lot of shoes and boots aren't meant for this kind of punishment. And so far these haven't shown any signs of breaking down. 4) I haven't worn them in the heat yet. So far they've managed to keep my feet warm in below freezing weather and I've had no problems in days in the 60's. So I'm not sure if they'll get hot during the summer. However if the way they handle the winter is an indication it shouldn't be a problem. view less
The temperature outside was 100 degrees or more and my feet did not sweat.
Hey Kapil, I am a electrical lineman in Southern California and I've been wearing my new boots at work for a week now, and I have to say I am extremely impressed!
The comfort...view more is amazing and they seem to be holding up very well! I even did some pole climbing in them and I know they are not made for that but the shank was adequate for working on the pole. Probably not for long periods but they are comfortable enough to climb in for a couple hours at a time. The temperature outside was 100 degrees or more all week long and my feet did not sweat, even while standing on the hot asphalt! My entire crew has already ordered a pair, and I'm gonna spread the word to the district I work in and others. Before you know it lineman all over the country will be wearing them. Thanks for creating an awesome boot that is comfortable and durable as well. My feet also thank you!
Dear @mishmitakin
I'm a fairly avid hiker/backpacker/adventurer and after years of searching for boots that are light, durable, waterproof and have great traction on whatever path my adventure leads me on, I took my brand new kameng boots on their maiden voyage up Mt. Sherman (14,036ft) to break them in. Zero hot spots, amazing ankle support, I crossed snow field with no slipping, my feet felt like they were encased in clouds. But more importantly as you'll see in the picture, no slipping on what I call "death pebbles" on the steep sections of the trail that are common on a lot of Colorado 14ers. @mishmitakin thank you for creating the only hiking boot I'm planning on buying ever again. You have my unwaverly loyalty. For anyone else reading, this is not a sponsored post, this is the post of someone who is profoundly happy to have found her perfect boot. #mishimitakin #kameng #happyfeethappyhike #perfectboot #customerloyalty #mountsherman #14ers #colorado14ers #14036ft #thankyou #ontothenextadventure
My first pair of hiking boots are so comfortable. I am a 6.5 and the 6.5 boots fit perfectly with warm thick socks. The customer service is truly like NO other I have ever encountered. A company you want to support for all the right reasons.
Q: Re. Kameng Mid
I have worn the sole and would like to resolve. Thru the years I have used Dave the Cobbler in Seattle. I sent him some pictures of the boot and he does not recognize the sole. Any suggestions on the name of the sole or alternate cobbler.
Q: Are the insoles removable? I have to wear special insoles and was wondering if the instep will hit the shoe and cause friction? I was also wondering if you could put up the measurements of the foot in mm? I have EU 40, but wear sometimes EU41 (sneakers, gym shoes, running shoes)....view more What size do you recommend? Do the toes have to reach the forefront of the shoe or have a bit of space in between them?view less
A:Hi Susan,
Yes, the insoles are removable. You can take them out and use your orthotics. Since your running shoes are EU 41, I would suggest going with EU 41. The hiking shoes need to be a little bigger as your foot swells after an extended day of hiking. Also, you would need some...view more extra space in the boot to accommodate your custom orthotic. So, I will suggest trying the EU 41 first. If it turns out too big, then you can try the smaller size.
Thanks,

A: Hi Josee,
Kameng is not narrow and is a bit on the bigger side. What size do you wear normally? We can always exchange if the size does not fit.
Kapil
A: Hi Gary,
Kameng has outsole + midsole entirely of rubber. There is an integrated shank in the sole. Except that, there is no other material. ie. there is no EVA or PU. The insole is ortholite.
Thanks,
Kapil

Mishmi Takin is focused on superior breathability and comfort even in conditions where other's don't breath. That led us to eVent. The critical difference between eVent's technology and traditional waterproof/breathable fabrics is the billions of microscopic pores built in the membrane that work instantly to vent water vapor (sweat) that builds up inside your apparel and footwear when you perform. This "Direct Venting™ technology does not need to get wet to work. It’s a 'dry system' that keeps you dry and comfortable in the widest range of temperatures and conditions. eVent waterproof membrane is Made in USA.
