'Heavy bushwhacking had no impact on the lightweight rip stop shell.'

'I’ve worn it over a warmth layer while family skiing in Colorado ... I am thrilled with this jacket'
'I have a very expensive Gortex hard shell made by a reputable, well known outdoor brand. I’m happy to report that the Gortex jacket will now be replaced by the Mishmi Takin, due to the Virunga’s superior fit, feel, and features.'
'First I tried it out in the snow. The jacket was extremely windproof and did a solid job of keeping my insulated jacket and underlayers dry.'
'I went storm chasing and set out in the cold rain and “semi-snow” — and the jacket performed great. I was dry and breathing with the jacket. The hood had excellent coverage and kept my head dry.'
Kurt Repenshak, National Parks Traveler - Full Review
'On several snowshoe outings that featured a variety of exertion, this jacket did an excellent job of breathing to keep me dry on the inside.'
'It is rugged too. It got caught on a nail and tugged. I was so sure I would find a hole ripped through my beautiful pink jacket, but upon inspection there was no tear anywhere. Not even a pull in the material.
This jacket has and is performing as expected from what I have read on recent reviews. The jacket has a nice feel to it upon inspection. There was no tears, rips or broken seams ... view moreupon my first look at it. I do love and appreciate the pit zips as I do tend to sweat and have had no issues so far. The zippers are well made but does take a bit of effort to open and close the zippers. Nice pockets to hold my phone and other things if I desire. I was able to do some small five mile hikes in the jacket under rainy conditions and I was dry on the inside. I am still figuring out how when to use the pit zips to control the inside temps of the jacket. The other shell has a durable feel and the hood cinches very nice and I am able to move my head without the jacket shifting. The brim on the hood is a nice feature. While not fully packable, the Virunga is light enough to pack in the top of your backpack. Overall, another fantastic product from Mishmi Takin as I have their Kameng Boots, which are in the process of being broken in for my upcoming 2 trips to Art Loeb Trail in North Carolina and Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico next summer. Thank you Kapil for making great products. They may cost a bit more but when your feet and body are dry, it makes for a better hike! I have the pirate black color and would love to see an orange color down the road should they make any alterations to the jacket. view less

Headline: Mishmi Takin wins, this jacket is the best I own.
The waterproofness, the myriad active venting options, the amazing hood which both stays in place and provides urban friendly visibility. I love this jacket.
There are three things I wish for. One of which, everyone will want. The other two might be specialized requests for city walkers.
1) some kind of loop on the neck line so I can hang the jacket on coat hangers.
2) color options - something higher visibility, like yellow, green, or orange. I want to give Seattle drivers who already have their hands full with dark and rainy conditions every chance to see me and not run me over.
3) this exact same jacket but with a longer cut.
Thanks, Kapil, for making this jacket and very much looking forward to what you make next. view less

I am over the moon with the quality of the Mishmi Takin gear
I backed the Kickstarter campaign. I received my jacket and boots in time for a field trip to Scotland, Utah and Nicaragua. This is among the best of over 300 campaigns that I have backed and I am really pleased that I have the Virunga jacket.
The jacket is simple and efficient with very large pockets, thoughtful armpit vents and a well designed hood. I did a lot of hiking in rain and snow, and the jacket performed amazingly well. Better than any other hard shell I have purchased. view less
A: Hi Blake,
The jacket packs small. But, if the question is, can it pack into a pocket, then no, the pocket is not packable. (Also, think about Garamba, it packs even smaller than Virunga as it doesn't have the 3rd layer tricot backing).
Thanks,
Kapil
A:Hi Jan-Olof,
My apologies for the delay in getting back to you. For some reason, I missed your email. See below for tips on washing eVent jackets -

Tumble dry, using a low heat setting, to rejuvenate your garment’s durable water repellent finish (DWR). Do not use fabric softeners, bleach or stain removal products and never dry-clean your garment. Hard Shell Factory-
eVent (Est 1998), Lee's Summit, Missouri, USA -
Mishmi Takin is focused on superior breathability and comfort even in conditions where other's don't breath. That led us to eVent. The critical difference between eVent's technology and traditional waterproof/breathable fabrics is the billions of microscopic pores built in the membrane that work instantly to vent water vapor (sweat) that builds up inside your apparel and footwear when you perform. This "Direct Venting™ technology does not need to get wet to work. It’s a 'dry system' that keeps you dry and comfortable in the widest range of temperatures and conditions. eVent waterproof membrane is Made in USA and then shipped to Shinhan Industries in South Korea. Shinhan produces the nylon face fabric and laminates the waterproof membrane with the face fabric to produce the final fabric.
Shin Textiles, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea is a leading manufacturer making highly technical garments for extreme sports and specialized in 100% waterproof seam-sealed and welded technical garments such as for mountaineering.
