'I have a very expensive Gortex hard shell made by a reputable, well known outdoor brand. I’m happy to report that the Gortex jacket will now be replaced by the Mishmi Takin, due to the Virunga’s superior fit, feel, and features.'
'First I tried it out in the snow. The jacket was extremely windproof and did a solid job of keeping my insulated jacket and underlayers dry.'
'I went storm chasing and set out in the cold rain and “semi-snow” — and the jacket performed great. I was dry and breathing with the jacket. The hood had excellent coverage and kept my head dry.'
Kurt Repenshak, National Parks Traveler - Full Review
'On several snowshoe outings that featured a variety of exertion, this jacket did an excellent job of breathing to keep me dry on the inside.'
'It is rugged too. It got caught on a nail and tugged. I was so sure I would find a hole ripped through my beautiful pink jacket, but upon inspection there was no tear anywhere. Not even a pull in the material.
The Virunga - 3L eVent® Waterproof Hard Shell Jacket - Women was exactly the Shell I needed on my Andes ski touring trip. The weather was quite warm on many of the days at lower el...view moreevations and then windy and cold at the top. The shell's breathability was great for the way up and then protected me from the wind when I was at higher elevations. It was a perfect top layer. The service at Mishimi Takin matched the performance of the shell and was top notch. My customer experience was outstanding and this product is everything that it claims to be. view less
I just came back from my trip in Iceland. I am happy to report that the Virunga jacket has served me well throughout Iceland's volatile weather from rain, snow, and wind.
I ...view morelove the little details in the jacket such as velcro adjustable cuff in case my layering is thinner or thicker, the breathable materials especially where I can hide my mouth in the snow and breathe at the same time, the adjustable hoodie so I don't have to hold the hoodie with my hand even when it's windy, the underarm zippers which release heat during hiking. In short, I love the jacket!!!
My minor disappointment relates to the left side hoodie drawstring, which broke during my first day using the jacket. While the jacket is 99% functional despite the broken drawstring, I was hoping that the jacket would last me for years before it starts breaking down on me. I then corresponded with the founder -- Kapil, who was extremely understanding about my minor disappointment. He offered to replace the jacket and I am fully appreciative of the gesture. I love founders who take the time to listen to customers feedback and I fully support this company! view less

eVent (Est 1998), Lee's Summit, Missouri, USA -
Mishmi Takin is focused on superior breathability and comfort even in conditions where other's don't breath. That led us to eVent. The critical difference between eVent's technology and traditional waterproof/breathable fabrics is the billions of microscopic pores built in the membrane that work instantly to vent water vapor (sweat) that builds up inside your apparel and footwear when you perform. This "Direct Venting™ technology does not need to get wet to work. It’s a 'dry system' that keeps you dry and comfortable in the widest range of temperatures and conditions. eVent waterproof membrane is Made in USA and then shipped to Shinhan Industries in South Korea. Shinhan produces the nylon face fabric and laminates the waterproof membrane with the face fabric to produce the final fabric.
Shin Textiles, headquartered in Seoul, South Korea is a leading manufacturer making highly technical garments for extreme sports and specialized in 100% waterproof seam-sealed and welded technical garments such as for mountaineering. Mishmi Takin shells are made at the Shin owned factory in Hai Duong City, Vietnam.
