Get Comfortable: 4 Ways to Make Camping Feel Like Home

July 13, 2017

Summer is the season for outdoor adventures, and you probably have a mile-long list of places to visit and things to do. With long hours of sunshine you can hike, climb, swim, bike, fish, and raft to your heart's content. Camping allows us to be next to our favorite activities, and extend the day-time fun.

But the fun doesn't have to end after the sun sets.

We devote so much planning and anticipation to daytime activities; sometimes we neglect to prepare for the evening hours. This summer, we want to help you take your camping to the next level.

Here are 4 tips for making your campsite feel more like home, so that you can extend your outdoor fun from early mornings with your favorite coffee to late nights around a cozy campfire.

1. Bring chairs.

It may seem obvious, but you'll be a lot more comfortable at camp if you have somewhere to sit. Foldable camp chairs are relatively inexpensive, fit easily into your car, and keep you off the hard, chilly ground, which will let you and your friends spend more hours around the campfire.

2. Light it up.

When you're miles away from city lights, it gets dark fast. Bringing plenty of flashlights, headlamps, or lanterns will make it easier to navigate your campsite after the sun goes down, giving you the freedom to move around and even take short nighttime walks. Just remember to turn them off eventually so that you can see the stars.

3. Make yourself comfortable.

Just because you're camping doesn't mean you have to rough it. Don't be afraid to bring blankets, pillows, and even an air mattress—the more comfortable you are, the better you'll be able to relax and sleep, which will give you more energy for the next day's adventures.

Plus, you won't come back from your camping trip feeling like you need to rest and recover.

4. Bring along group activities.

Games and musical instruments are all great ways to spend time with your friends in the evenings. Try to find a low-key activity that gets everyone involved. Your campsite in the middle of nowhere will feel just as cozy as a mellow evening at home.

Camping is a great way to escape the routines and stress of everyday life, but that doesn't mean you have to leave the best parts of home behind, every time you head outside. With these tips, you can transform your campsite into a welcoming, familiar place so that you can enjoy every minute of your trip.
